Phenomenal!!!
Price: $7999.95
Absolutely. One of the first Bill Collings mandolins, this one checks in at s/n 11, which place it at a 1999-2000 model. I’m guessing 2000. This example has it all. Magnificent woods (including a one piece birds-eye back), lovely finish, excellent appointments and a phenomenal voice. And the icing on the cake; this instruments condition is nearly new.
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a traditional sunburst gloss lacquer finish w/ 3-ply bindings throughout, radius Ebony fretboard, 1-1/8″ nut width, tone bar bracing, Ebony bridge, Vine headstock inlay and gold hardware includes; Shcaller tuning machines and an early cast Collings tailpiece.
Phenomenal sound. Big and bold. Deep, dark and woody tones, excellent volume and sustain and a large bluegrass chop. Very resonant. Much stronger than a majority of the Collings mandolins that followed.
Near-mint condition. Only detractions are a bridge base footprint where someone moved the bridge slightly, some superficial pick marks below the fretboard and an area of ultra light button rash. Both the pick marks and rash are barely visible. Frets have minor wear.
Offered with a recent Collings case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
