Simply Smashing Silverangel!
Price: $2999.95
Very strong Silverangel, s/n 408 handcrafted by Ken Ratcliff. Label was signed on Christmas Eve, 2017. Apparently, Ken replaced the top with California Redwood in 2021. This fine example features incredible woods (look at that back), excellent appointments and a remarkable voice. Topped off with a Fern/vase headstock inlay.
1850’s Redwood top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a walnut burst varnish finish, 3-ply bindings throughout. Radius Ebony fretboard with snowflake inlays, 1-5/32″ nut width and X-bracing. Gold hardware includes; engraved James tailpiece (likely not original) and gold Grover tuning gears.
Big, big sound. The aged Redwood and X-bracing is a terrific pairing. The X-bracing provides the big volume and the Redwood provides the tonal depth that is often missing in X-braced mandolins. From a sound standpoint, this mandolin provides it all. Warm, resonant and woody tones with significant sustain and quite powerful. A Hoss.
Excellent to excellent-minus condition. Does have it’s share of finish blemishes and some scratches around both f-holes. Headstock shows scratches and blemishes. Some fret wear, but on the lighter side overall. A previous owner apparently monkied with the bridge at some point and finish around it is scarred. Speed neck.
Just back from the shop where the bridge was better fitted.
Offered with a basic hardshell case.
Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
