It’s been awhile since we’ve had one of these, probably at least ten years. Somewhat rare model. I think Gibson made maybe 40 of these. Label signed by Danny Roberts om Dec. 18, 2003. These special models feature Adirondack tops and full sunburst finish, front and back. This fine example has a couple recent upgrades; Waverly tuning machines and EVO frets. Splendid.
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst gloss lacquer finish. 3-Ply top binding, single ply bound fretboard, flat Ebony fretboard, Ebony adjustable bridge, parallel tone bars, 1-1/16″ nut width and Flowerpot headstock inlay. Original tuning machines replaced with Waverly’s and frets replaced with gold EVO.
Big volume, very responsive. Warm, dry and very nicely balanced featuring complex overtones and a stellar bluegrass chop. This mandolin rocks. Top has matured quite well. She’s a Hoss.
Excellent condition showing playwear relative to her age. Mostly light. A few smallish scuffs, a couple small pings, minor finish scratching and pick marks. Pinky wear down to wood. Finish removed from neck (speed neck). Recent set up.
Includes original TKL case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
