Splendid!!!
Price: $7499.95
Only our second mandolin built by Oliver Apitius out of Ontario, Canada. Superfine twenty+ year old instrument, featuring excellent German woods and appointments and a terrific voice. Current (new) pricing for the Classic F-5 model is around $13,500, so this offering is a bargain.
German Spruce top, nicely figured German Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst gloss lacquer (I think) finish. Three ply bound top and headstock, single ply bound fretboard. Radius Ebony fretboard with 1-5/32″ nut width, Ebony adjustable bridge, parallel tone bars, Flowerpot headstock inlay, engraved traditional tailpiece and Schaller tuning machines.
Big, big volume. Sounds more like a varnish, so my gloss lacquers assumption may be incorrect. Warm, woody and throaty tones and exceptional balance. Classic bluegrass sound. Sensational chop. A banjo slayer.
Excellent condition showing light playwear. Plenty of superficial pick marks. Top also has a few scuffs/blemishes in the finish and a series of three small scratches at lower f-hole that are into the wood. Has a few minor pings on soundboard and back. Many string scratches and blemishes on the headstock. Some fretwear, but minimal. Truss rod cover screw hole is cracked and could stand replacement.
Includes a shaped TKL case. Trades gladly considered.
