Beast!!!
Price: $8999.95 $7999.95
Special early F-5 mandolin from Master Luthier Bob Altman down south in Ga. Bob is primarily building acoustic guitars these days, but he’ll still build a mandolin. It’s my understanding that he’d charge $20K, so this little beast is priced right. This fine example of Bob’s work, s/n 4905 (13th mandolin) was completed in early 2006, but the label was s/n indicates 2005.
Specs:
Adirondack Spruce top, Curly Maple back/sides/neck neck in a tobacco burst varnish finish. 3-Ply bound body, single ply binding on fretboard and headstock. Radius Ebony fretboard, parallel tone bars, 1-1/4″ nut width, abbreviated Walnut pickguard (not shown in photos, but included), Fern headstock inlay, Waverly tuning machines with pearl buttons and engraved James tailpiece.
Excellent-plus condition showing minor play wear. Has a few scratches below the pickguard, some superficial pick marks here and there and a few string scratches on the headstock. No fret wear worth mentioning. This mandolin has had on two owners in it’s life and has been very well cared for.
A bluegrass beast. Warm, woody and dry. Very nicely balanced. Excellent depth. Classic Loar tone with outstanding sustain and big volume. Strong chop. A terrific sounding mandolin that will not disappoint.
Offered with original Altman (Cedar Creek) case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
