Exquisite Ellis A-5, s/n 219-10, featuring top shelf appointments including an elegant Fern–pot headstock inlay, engraved James tailpiece and a one piece back combined with a remarkable voice.
Specs:
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Sugar Maple one piece back, Maple sides and neck in a dark sunburst varnished finish, 3-ply bindings on body and headstock, single-ply bound fretboard, radiused Ebony fretboard and EVO frets, 1-1/8″ nut width, abbreviated Ebony pick guard, engraved James tailpiece and Gotoh tuning gears with ebony buttons.
Heavenly sound. Deep, woody tone and richly balanced. Complex overtones. Bold and chunky chop. Tom Ellis may be the architect of the “modern mandolin tone” and this one is a perfect example.
Excellent-plus to near mint condition, showing some light button rash type scratches on each side of the tailpiece, one very light scratch below the treble f-hole and a couple tiny finish blemishes below the strings between the end of the fretboard and the bridge.
Includes original gold tweed case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made mandolin.
