Splendid!

Exceptional F-5L Fern mandolin. This fine example, signed by David Harvey on August 15, 2012 offers a strong bluegrass voice, top shelf woods and excellent appointments. The Fern inlay is exquisite. During this time period, Gibson made some mandolins with Adirondack Spruce. Additionally the label says ‘Custom Fern’. Frankly, I believe this mandolin has an Adirondack top.
Gibson is not currently making this model, so a pre-owned Fern is your only option and this one is, well, splendid.
Premium (Adirondack?) Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in cremona burst gloss lacquer finish. Three ply bindings throughout, flat Ebony fretboard, Ebony adjustable bridge, parallel tone bars, 1-1/16″ nut width, exquisite ‘Fern’ headstock inlay and gold hardware including; Grover tuning machines with pearl buttons and an engraved traditional tailpiece.
Classic Gibson tone. Warm, dry and woody. Very punchy with significant “pop” and projection. Big bluegrass chop. Responsive, volume aplenty. Exceptional sounding Gibson. A cannon.
Excellent-plus condition. Shows some superficial pick marks, a lacquer ding on the top, near the tailpiece and an area of light button rash on the back. The frets show some wear but on the light side. Pro set-up, plays easy.
Includes original (TKL) oblong case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
