Exceptional value in this fine mandolin, crafted here in N.C. (Winston-Salem) by James Bernabe. This excellent example, s/n 39 features fantastic woods, outstanding appointments and a marvelous voice. Fine choice as a back-up, upgrade or #1.
Engelmann Spruce top, nicely figured hard Sugar Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst French polished Varnish. 3-ply bindings throughout. Body is top and side bound. Radius Ebony fretboard with large fretwire and 1-1/8″ nut width, Ebony adjustable bridge, parallel tone bars, Flowerpot headstock inlay, engraved James tailpiece and Golden Age tuning machines.
Big, strong voice. Warm, dry and woody tones providing significant pop. Outstanding volume, projects quite well. Fantastic bluegrass chop. This mandolin sounds better than any F-5 in it’s modest price point. A powerful little bluegrass beast.
Excellent condition showing basically light playwear. Has a couple tiny dings and superficial playwear on the soundboard and blemishes where someone has adjusted the bridge location slightly. The rims show finish blemishes around the tailpiece (at bottom rim) and a couple others, possibly from an armrest. No fretwear, could be EVO frets. Headstock shows some string marks and it looks like it may have a scroll repair has well.
Includes a shaped TKL case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
