Magnificent Mandolin!!!
Price: $6,999.95 **SOLD**
Strong instrument, handcrafted by Paul Newson out of Manton, Michigan. It’s been a long interval since we last had a Newson mandolin. This example, F-5 s/n 125 features top shelf woods (incredible one piece back), excellent appointments and a remarkable voice. Magnificent!
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a traditional sunburst varnish finish w/ 3-ply bindings throughout, radius Ebony fretboard, 1-1/8″ nut width, pearl nut, tone bar bracing, elegant mother-of-pearl headstock inlay, Golden Age tuning machines with black buttons and an engraved James tailpiece.
Strong sound. Dry, woody and rich. Excellent note definition and complex overtones. Balanced. Terrific sustain and big volume. Crushing bluegrass chop. A Beast.
Excellent-plus condition. Has a few very minor finish blemishes in the finish. The thin varnish has set into the wood, which gives it a slightly cloudy appearance in spots. However, it adds to the vintage look. The appearance of the finish is very similar to a Gibson Master Model, particularly from the Derrington era. The mandolin does have signs of light playwear, along with extremely minor fretwear.
Offered with a TKL shaped case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
