You don’t see many of these come around. Mainly because there were only six made. Traditional voicing modeled to Grisman’s Loar. This fine example, s/n 509, features top shelf woods and appointments including inlays and logo unique to this Limited Edition and a remarkable voice.
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Sugar Maple back/sides/neck in a cremona burst varnished finish, 3-ply bindings throughout, radius Ebony fretboard, 1-1/8″ nut width, abbreviated Tortoise pick guard and Custom headstock inlay. Gold hardware includes engraved James tailpiece and Waverly tuning gears with Mother-of-Pearl buttons.
Heavenly sound. Deep, woody tone and incomparably balanced. Complex overtones. Strong bluegrass chunky chop and big volume. Hands down, MandoMutt’s favorite Ellis mandolin.
Near Mint condition. Has the bare beginnings of fretwear and an armrest footprint. Otherwise showroom clean.
Includes a Canadian Calton, black/blue case. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made mandolin.
