Terrific handcrafted F-5 mandolin from Paul Duff out of Australia. It’s been a long while since we last had a Duff F-5. This fine one owner example, s/n 21016 features exceptional woods and appointments combined with immaculate fit and finish work, excellent playability and a classic Loar-like voice.
Adirondack Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a dark burst varnish finish, 3-ply side bindings throughout, flat Ebony fretboard, 1-1/16″ nut width and parallel tone bars. Nickel hardware includes; engraved James tailpiece and Golden Age tuning gears with ivoroid buttons. Lovely Flowerpot headstock inlay.
Amazing sound. Classic Loar like tone, woody, dry and warm. Powerful mid-range, D string. Big volume and sustain. Exceptionally balanced. Excellent bluegrass chop.
Excellent-plus cosmetic condition. Top has a few smallish dings and some light string marks beneath the fretboard. A few light string scratches on the headstock and minor fretwear. Had aa abbreviated pickguard at one time, but it’s MIA. Low action, plays easy.
Includes the original Presto case that has one case sticker and some sticker residue in several spots. Trades gladly considered.
