Terrific Custom Gibson, although the only Custom feature is the 1-1/16″ nut which has previously been the standard nut width for many years. Seems odd that Gibson’s standard nut width for the F-5G is 1-3/16″, considering the industry standard is 1-1/8″. Gibson does like to be odd, however. This gem does have a full body burst, which, I think, is a more recent twist as the backs have always been a boring brown. Save $1000 off of new price.
Sitka Spruce top, highly figured Maple back/sides/neck in a tobacco burst gloss lacquer finish. 3-Ply bound top, radius Ebony fretboard, Ebony adjustable bridge, parallel tone bars, 1-1/16″ nut width, Flowerpot headstock inlay and Gibson Grover tuning machines.
Responsive and strong mandolin with that classic Gibson tone. Warm, dry and woody. Big chime and sustain. Excellent bluegrass chop. Sounds fantastic right out of the box.
Essentially a new (never owned) mandolin. It should be considered shopworn, however, as it has a tiny chip is the lacquer at the lower binding. Maybe 1/16″ diameter. Otherwise flawless.
Includes original TKL case with leather Gibson pull tag inside. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
