High Octane Hoss!
Price: $4,999.95
This mandolin is one of the strongest Skip has built. And Skip builds strong mandolins. Extremely powerful bluegrass mandolin. It was built to specs from April 25, 1923 Lloyd Loar F-5. This was Skip’s 54th mandolin and his 2nd Vintage F-5. We have it on consignment from the original owner.
2016 Skip Kelly F-5 Specs:
Adirondack Spruce top, European Maple back/sides/neck in an antique sunburst, hand rubbed stain and oil varnish finish, 3-ply bound body and headstock, single Ivoroid bound fretboard. Radius Ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays and gold EVO fretwire. Also features Red Spruce tone bar bracing, hide glue assembly and Gotoh tuning gears. Original tailpiece has been replaced with a Nugget tailpiece.
Big, wide open, dynamic sound, Dry, woody tone. Extremely powerful mandolin. Monster chop. I played the Feb. 26, 1923 Loar a couple weeks back and I’d be willing to bet this mandolin sounds very similar and just as powerful.
Excellent minus to excellent overall condition. Top shows some playwear below the strings, pinky wear and such. Has some wear around the arm rest area. Back has some rather gnarly scratches from one of those danged ToneGard things.
Includes a white UK built Calton case with free case stickers. Trades gladly considered on this fine American made instrument.
